~ Idaho Falls, ID - The City of Idaho Falls has announced plans for a new neighborhood park near the College of Eastern Idaho and is seeking input from nearby residents to help shape its future. The park, named Meppen Park, will provide a safe and accessible space for families and individuals to gather, play, and recreate.
According to Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Director PJ Holm, the new park is an exciting investment in the future of the neighborhood and its residents. "For too long, this area of Idaho Falls has lacked a park within walking distance for children. Meppen Park will not only provide a safe place for kids to play, but also offer amenities such as pickleball courts, walking paths, and open green space for people of all ages to enjoy," said Holm.
To gather community input on desired amenities for the park, a public event will be held on Tuesday, May 12th from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the end of Meppen Drive near the community garden. Attendees can look for a tent and feather banners to locate the event.

During the event, residents will have the opportunity to learn about proposed concepts for the park and rank potential amenities such as sports fields, playgrounds, and courts. City staff will be available to answer questions and gather feedback as part of the planning process. While final features will depend on factors such as utility requirements and safety considerations, all community input will be carefully reviewed.
"We want this park to truly reflect the needs and interests of our community," said Holm. "That's why we encourage all residents in the surrounding neighborhood to attend this event and take part in shaping Meppen Park."
The final site plan and design for Meppen Park will be developed by the Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Department based on community feedback. The City aims to prioritize ideas that are most supported by residents while also considering factors such as accessibility standards and safety requirements.
The City of Idaho Falls is excited to work with the community to create a park that will serve this neighborhood for generations to come. Residents are encouraged to attend the event and have their voices heard in the planning process for Meppen Park.
