~ # Idaho Falls Zoo Renews AZA Accreditation
The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park has renewed its accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), following a comprehensive review by the organization's independent Accreditation Commission.
The evaluation found that the zoo meets AZA standards for animal care, wellbeing and management. The accreditation process includes a detailed application, a multi-day inspection by zoological professionals and a review of areas such as veterinary care, staff training, education, conservation, finances, risk management and guest services. Facility leaders also take part in a formal hearing before the commission makes its decision.

AZA-accredited institutions must undergo the process every five years. The Idaho Falls Zoo was the first zoo in Idaho to earn accreditation and has maintained it for more than 25 years. It and Zoo Boise are currently the only AZA-accredited zoos in the state.
"Maintaining AZA accreditation is a significant accomplishment and a reflection of the dedication our entire team brings to the Idaho Falls Zoo every day," Executive Director David Pennock said. He said the renewal reinforces the zoo's commitment to animal care, guest experiences and continually improving its work.
AZA President and CEO Dan Ashe congratulated the zoo's leadership and staff, describing accreditation as the "global gold standard" for zoos and aquariums.
Following the Fall 2026 accreditation cycle, the AZA reported 241 accredited institutions and 14 accredited related facility members across 12 countries.
