Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - In a recent announcement, Governor Brad Little has appointed Jennifer White as the new executive director of the Idaho State Board of Education. This decision comes as current director Josh Whitworth is leaving for a job in the private sector. Along with this appointment, Governor Little has also selected Kurt Liebich to serve as the board's president following the expiration of Dr. Linda Clark's term.
Governor Little expressed his confidence in White's abilities, stating that she is a strategic and effective leader who deeply understands Idaho's unique education and workforce needs. He looks forward to working with her, along with new board president Kurt Liebich and the entire board and staff, to continue positioning Idaho's students, families, and workforce for success.
The Governor also took the opportunity to thank outgoing director Josh Whitworth for his excellent work during his tenure. Together, they were able to strengthen LAUNCH and secure significant victories for Idaho's education system from kindergarten through career. He also expressed his appreciation for Dr. Clark's steadfast leadership as board president and her continued involvement on the board.

Jennifer White brings a wealth of experience to her new role as executive director. She is currently serving as Assistant Vice President for Finance and Operations and Senior Counsel at Boise State University. Prior to joining the university in 2023, White worked as in-house counsel for a large corporation and was a litigator at law firms in the Washington D.C. area. She has also worked for former Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne and then-Lt. Governor Jim Risch. White is a graduate of Vallivue High School and holds a bachelor's degree from Willamette University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Washington School of Law.
In response to her appointment, White expressed her honor at earning the confidence of Governor Little and others as she steps into her new role at the State Board of Education. She recognizes that Idaho has proven its ability to lead by excelling at the basics and implementing innovative approaches to support students of all ages. White believes that the education system is crucial to the success of Idaho's communities, economy, and overall way of life.
Governor Little has also appointed Kurt Liebich as the new board president. Liebich has been a member of the board since 2019 and has served on the boards of numerous educational nonprofit organizations. He was also a part of Governor Little's "Our Kids, Idaho's Future" task force, which aimed to strengthen public education in Idaho. With a 30-year career in the wood products and building materials industry, Liebich brings valuable business experience to his new role.

As Idaho's single governing body for public kindergarten through college education, the State Board of Education consists of eight members who are responsible for overseeing and governing Idaho's public educational institutions, agencies, and school system. The board's mission is "to drive improvement of the K-20 education system for the citizens of Idaho, focusing on quality, results, and accountability." The Office of the State Board of Education implements board policies and oversees public higher education institutions and executive agencies under its jurisdiction.
