IDAHO FALLS ~ Early Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, a structure fire broke out in Idaho Falls on West Broadway Street, involving a chicken coop and nearby trailer homes. The Idaho Falls Fire Department was quickly alerted to the scene and responded with three engines, one ladder truck, three ambulances, and one battalion chief.
According to reports from dispatch, the call came in at approximately 5:40 a.m. Firefighters were able to contain the fire by 5:50 a.m., preventing it from spreading further and causing damage to nearby trailer homes.
The fire originated in a chicken coop located between two trailers and quickly spread to one of the neighboring homes. Unfortunately, the chicken coop was completely destroyed and 13 chickens perished in the blaze. The total damages from the incident are estimated at $30,000.

One resident sustained minor injuries but declined treatment by EMS at the scene. However, one of the trailer homes sustained enough damage that residents may be displaced as a result.
In addition to the firefighters on scene, Intermountain Gas, Rocky Mountain Power, and a chaplain also responded to assist with the situation. Despite their efforts, the cause of the fire remains undetermined and is no longer under investigation.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department is commended for their quick response and containment of this potentially dangerous situation. Residents are reminded to always exercise caution when dealing with fire hazards.
