IDAHO FALLS ~ On Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., the City Council Chambers at 680 Park Ave will be filled with excitement as Mayor-elect Lisa Burtenshaw and newly elected City Council members are officially sworn in. This highly anticipated event marks the beginning of a new era of leadership for Idaho Falls.
Mayor-elect Burtenshaw, along with Brandon Lee who will be taking over City Council Seat 1, and reelected members Jim Francis and Jim Freeman for Seats 4 and 6 respectively, will all take the oath to begin their new terms. Members of the public are invited to attend and witness this momentous occasion.

The swearing-in ceremony not only signifies the start of Mayor-elect Burtenshaw's term but also marks the end of outgoing Mayor Rebecca Casper's 12-year tenure. Mayor Casper leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service and community-focused leadership.
Expressing her gratitude and excitement for this new chapter in Idaho Falls' history, Mayor-elect Burtenshaw stated, "I am honored to serve the residents of Idaho Falls and to begin this next chapter with such a dedicated City Council. I look forward to engaging with our community, listening to their ideas, and working together to make Idaho Falls a great place to live, raise a family and grow a business."
The city is eager to see what this new leadership team will bring to the table and is confident that they will continue to uphold the values and goals of Idaho Falls.
