~ On April 2, the Idaho Falls Fire Department will welcome Johan Olson as its new fire chief in a swearing-in ceremony at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers. The ceremony will take place before the regularly scheduled City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend in person or watch the live stream on the city's website.
Olson was selected for the position following a national recruitment process and confirmation by the City Council. He brings with him extensive leadership experience, a strong background in emergency management, and a deep connection to the Idaho Falls Fire Department. Olson previously served with the department from 2007 to 2021, holding various roles including firefighter, captain, and move-up battalion chief.

In a statement, Olson expressed his honor and excitement to return to Idaho Falls and serve as fire chief for a department that holds great significance to him. He also looks forward to supporting the firefighters, strengthening safety and operational excellence, and continuing to build strong relationships within the community.
