~ Idaho Falls Zoo is reminding local teens to apply for the highly sought-after Junior Zoo Crew program before the extended deadline of May 1st at 12:00 p.m. This unique summer experience offers teenagers aged 14 to 17 the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a zoo setting.
The three-week program allows participants to work alongside zoo professionals, assist in the Children's Zoo, and take part in field studies that bring animal care and conservation to life. Not only will they gain real-world animal care experience, but they will also have the chance to build confidence in speaking with the public.
One of the highlights of Junior Zoo Crew is the chance for participants to meet other like-minded teens who share a passion for animals. In addition, they will earn volunteer hours that can be applied towards school requirements, resumes, and future opportunities.
The program requires a meaningful and memorable summer commitment, with members spending three days a week at the zoo during their session. The key dates for this year's program are as follows: May 1st - application deadline (extended), May 14th-16th - evening policy trainings (with a parent or guardian), June 8th - new crew member orientation, June 9th-June 29th - Session 1 (full; waitlist available), June 30th-July 20th - Session 2, and July 21st-August 10th - Session 3.
