Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - In a move to strengthen public safety and national security, Governor Brad Little has authorized the Idaho National Guard to provide administrative and clerical support to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This will allow ICE to dedicate more of its resources to law enforcement activities.

As Commander in Chief, Governor Little expressed his pride in the Idaho National Guard's readiness to support federal partners in any capacity. He stated, "Our guardsmen are trained, disciplined, and committed to serving the people of Idaho and the nation."

The authorization came after U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth notified the National Guard Bureau that governors across 20 states, including Idaho, were authorized to activate up to 1,700 guardsmen to support ICE. This notification allows for immediate activation and will remain in effect until November 15, 2025.

Under this authorization, up to 14 Idaho National Guard personnel will be activated to provide administrative and clerical support for ICE. This will free up ICE agents to focus on law enforcement activities.

The funding for these guardsmen will come from section 502(f) of title 32 of the U.S. Code and they will remain under the command and control of Governor Little while working directly with local ICE offices. They will work together to develop support plans and implementation timelines.

The Idaho National Guard is no stranger to supporting local, state, and federal agencies. They have a history of providing assistance during natural disasters such as floods and fires, as well as participating in counter narcotics operations and supporting law enforcement during civil unrest. Their commitment to all-hazard response operations is part of their ongoing mission.

This new partnership between the Idaho National Guard and ICE is another example of their dedication to interagency cooperation. By working together, they hope to strengthen public safety and national security for both the state of Idaho and the nation as a whole. The guardsmen are expected to begin their support within the next 30 days, demonstrating their readiness and commitment to serving their community and country.
