IDAHO FALLS, ID, Sept. 9, 2025 ~ Idaho Falls Power, a division of the City of Idaho Falls, has recently completed significant improvements to the Cedar Point Boat Launch in partnership with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Located south of the Gem State Dam, this collaborative project aims to enhance recreational access to the Snake River and support ongoing efforts to provide outdoor recreation opportunities for the community.

The upgrades at Cedar Point include an improved boat ramp and access roads, a new vault toilet, signage, expanded parking, and enhanced shoreline stabilization. According to Stephen Boorman, Interim General Manager of Idaho Falls Power, these improvements were designed with a holistic approach in mind to provide a safer and more convenient experience for boaters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Previously, the difficult topography made it inaccessible for some watercraft to launch at Cedar Point despite its proximity to town and the popular Gem State Fishing Pond. However, with these recent improvements, Mayor Rebecca Casper believes that it will increase usage and better accommodate a variety of recreational activities such as fishing, kayaking, and boating. She also stated that improving the Snake River corridor is a high priority for the City of Idaho Falls as it is a focal point of their community.

Brett High, Regional Fisheries Manager for IDFG expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to partner with Idaho Falls Power in improving the access site below Gem State Dam. He also mentioned that their 2022 angler opinion survey indicated that maintaining existing fishing access sites is the second most important thing IDFG does for their angling public. High added that they are able to make these improvements thanks to funds contributed by sportsmen and women when they purchase hunting and fishing licenses.

The completion of this project reflects the City's continued investment in community infrastructure that supports outdoor living and enhances quality of life. It also strengthens local partnerships between Idaho Falls Power and IDFG.
