~ Idaho Falls City Attorney Michael Kirkham has been recognized by the city with pride and gratitude for his exceptional service as he takes on a new role as a Bonneville County magistrate judge. Kirkham's legal expertise, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the city have been instrumental in shaping effective municipal governance and safeguarding the community's interests.
Having served the City of Idaho Falls for over 11 years, Kirkham began as the assistant city attorney in 2014 and was later appointed as the city attorney on December 1, 2023, following the retirement of longtime City Attorney Randy Fife.
Mayor Rebecca Casper expressed her appreciation for Kirkham's contributions, stating, "Mike's service to the city has been nothing short of exceptional. His thoughtful counsel and unwavering integrity have earned him the trust and respect of his colleagues and community. While we are excited for him and his new chapter in his career, he will be deeply missed - both personally and professionally."

Although an official transition date is yet to be finalized, city officials have already started planning for leadership transition and outlining next steps. The position of Idaho Falls city attorney has been posted on the city's website under the Career Page. The city aims to announce Kirkham's successor by early October. Mayor Casper emphasized the importance of filling this critical position without delay, stating, "The city attorney plays a crucial role in every department's operations, so we will be working diligently to find a suitable replacement."
Reflecting on his time with the City of Idaho Falls, Kirkham expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve its people. He said, "It has been an incredible honor to work alongside dedicated public servants who deeply care about this community. My time with the city has shaped me both personally and professionally. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity."
