IDAHO FALLS ~ The City of Idaho Falls is gearing up to support the Second Annual Juneteenth Community Music Festival, organized by the Greater Idaho Falls Juneteenth Organizing Committee in collaboration with the Eastern Idaho Jazz Society. This festival, which celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, has become a national, state, and local holiday that promotes freedom and equality for all.
According to Lora King, co-chair of the Juneteenth Community Heritage Music Festival Committee, this event is all about celebrating freedom through music, education, and human connection. She expressed her pride in being a part of a team that is dedicated to spreading these values within their community.
This year's festival will consist of two free public events. The first one will take place on Saturday, June 14 at 9 a.m. at the Riverwalk Bandstand. Attendees can expect live music performances, opening remarks from City of Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper and City of Ammon Mayor Sean Coletti, as well as informational booths hosted by local organizations highlighting the city's diverse cultural history and community connections.

The second event will be held on Tuesday, June 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Colonial Theater in downtown Idaho Falls. This program will feature a Readers Theater presentation on the history of Juneteenth and musical performances that explore themes in American and African American music throughout the 20th century.
