~ Idaho Falls, ID - On July 11, 2025, a major drug bust was made by the Idaho Falls Police Department's Special Investigations Unit. The investigation began when law enforcement partners alerted them to a vehicle suspected of carrying narcotics entering the Idaho Falls area.

Investigators quickly located the vehicle at the Love's Truck stop on S 45th Road and observed it committing a traffic violation by failing to make a complete stop when leaving the parking lot and reentering the roadway. A traffic stop was initiated by an Idaho Falls Police Officer on I-15 near milepost 117.

Upon further investigation, an Idaho Falls Police K9 Officer arrived at the scene and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle. The police K9 provided a positive indication, signaling the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

A roadside search of the vehicle revealed 13 black electrical taped bundles hidden inside the panel of the rear liftgate. The bundles varied in weight from 222 grams to 514.8 grams and two of them were found to contain a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

In addition to these findings, officers also discovered a small baggie containing a white powdery substance weighing 13.9 grams that tested positive for cocaine, another baggie with 4.85 grams of methamphetamine, and various drug paraphernalia inside a purse and in the center console of the vehicle. The driver, identified as Cody Davidson, claimed ownership of all these items.

Davidson was searched during his arrest and found to be in possession of a glass jar containing more methamphetamine. As part of their thorough investigation, officers transported the vehicle to their complex for further examination and obtained a search warrant.

During this secondary search, more drug paraphernalia was found throughout the vehicle along with 11 additional black electrical tape wrapped packages concealed inside a door panel. These packages ranged in weight from 477 grams to 548.6 grams and one of them was opened for testing, which also tested positive for methamphetamine.

In total, the 24 bundles of tested and suspected methamphetamine weighed just over 25 pounds. Davidson admitted to being aware of the narcotics hidden in the vehicle and stated his intention to transport them from Las Vegas, Nevada to Montana. The passenger, Diane Walters, also admitted to knowing about the methamphetamine in the vehicle and consuming it during the trip.

"Often, when large drug seizures like this one are made, it is thanks to a collaborative effort from narcotics investigators and officers from different agencies," said Chief Johnson. "Those partnerships make it possible for us to make a stronger impact in the fight against illegal narcotics and the harm they do in our communities."

The Idaho Falls Police Department would like to thank their partners at the Davis County Task Force in Utah, Great Falls law enforcement in Montana, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, Madison County Sheriff's Office, and Idaho State Police for their assistance in this investigation. Together, they continue to work towards making their communities safer by cracking down on illegal drug activity.
