IDAHO FALLS ~ Late Sunday night, the Idaho Falls Fire Department was called to respond to a structure fire on East 109th North. The incident, which began as a chimney fire, quickly escalated into an attic fire at a single-story, single-family residence.
According to reports, the fire was first reported at 10:56 p.m. on Sunday, December 14. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters were met with heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the home. Shortly after their arrival, the fire self-vented through the roof.
Despite facing challenges due to a recent remodel and addition to the home, firefighters were able to access and suppress the flames. However, their efforts were hindered by multiple layers of roofing materials and a concealed false roof that was not visible until they cut into the structure. The fire was eventually extinguished, but not before causing extensive damage to the home.
