~ Idaho Falls Firefighters to Receive Idaho Medal of Honor for Heroic Rescue
The Idaho Falls Fire Department has announced that Senior Firefighter Travis Adams and Senior Firefighter Jeremy F. Newman will be receiving the prestigious Idaho Medal of Honor for their heroic actions on October 5, 2025. The two firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision on a rural roadway in Bingham County, where one vehicle had become partially submerged in a canal, trapping all four occupants inside.
Despite being off duty at the time, Adams and Newman received a notification through the PulsePoint application and immediately responded in their personal vehicles. They arrived on the scene before any on-duty emergency resources, recognizing the seriousness of the call and the location.

Without hesitation, Adams and Newman entered the frigid water despite knowing the hazards posed by moving water, cold temperatures, and the unstable vehicle. They climbed into the submerged vehicle and began rescuing each trapped occupant one by one. With great courage and selflessness, they carried each victim through the canal to safety where they could receive medical care.
Deputy Chief Paul Radford of the Idaho Falls Fire Department commended their actions, stating that they reflect extraordinary courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to protecting life – whether on or off duty. He also added that they represent the very best of their profession and department.
The two firefighters will be formally honored at a ceremony in Boise on September 1st, 2026. The City of Idaho Falls and its fire department are proud to have such outstanding and selfless individuals serving their community. They congratulate Senior Firefighters Adams and Newman on this well-deserved recognition for their bravery and dedication to saving lives.
