Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - In a show of respect and honor for the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, Governor Brad Little has ordered that all U.S. and State of Idaho flags be flown at half-staff. This directive comes in conjunction with a proclamation from President Donald Trump.
According to the governor's office, flags are to be flown at half-staff immediately and will remain so until sunset on the day of the Pope's interment. This decision was made in recognition of the thousands of Idaho Catholics and people of all faiths who are mourning the loss of Pope Francis.
In a statement, Governor Little expressed his condolences and admiration for the late Pope, calling him "a true servant of God." He also acknowledged the impact that Pope Francis had on people from all walks of life through his life and legacy of service to Christ and others.
President Trump's proclamation, issued by the White House, honors the memory of His Holiness Pope Francis. The proclamation also extends to all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad. This includes military facilities and naval vessels stationed overseas.
In his proclamation, President Trump stated that this gesture is a mark of respect for His Holiness Pope Francis. He also recognized his authority as President to order such an action by virtue of his position under the Constitution and laws of the United States.
The President signed off on this proclamation on April 21st in the year 2025. As per tradition, he used both his signature as well as "the year of our Lord" followed by "the Independence of the United States" to denote this date in history.
As Idahoans join many others in mourning the loss of Pope Francis, the flags flying at half-staff serve as a symbol of respect and remembrance for a man who touched the lives of so many through his service and devotion to God.
