Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - In a recent announcement, Governor Brad Little has appointed Pete Koehler to the Idaho State Board of Education. Koehler will be replacing Dr. Linda Clark, whose term on the board expired on June 30.
Governor Little praised Koehler for his dedication to serving the people of Idaho and his commitment to supporting the success of young students. He stated that education remains his top priority and entrusting proven leaders like Koehler with shaping education policy will only strengthen their efforts to improve outcomes for Idaho students. The governor also expressed his gratitude towards Dr. Clark for her many years of distinguished service in multiple leadership roles, stating that Idaho is stronger today because of her dedication and contributions.
Koehler, a Parma native, brings over two decades of military and public education leadership experience to the Idaho State Board of Education. He served 21 years in the U.S. Army before transitioning to education as a teacher, principal, area director, and superintendent. Koehler also served as Senior Deputy Superintendent and Chief of Staff at the Idaho State Department of Education.

With degrees from the University of Idaho and Boise State University, as well as administrator certification from Northwest Nazarene University, Koehler is well-equipped for his new role on the board. He is also an active member of various community and conservation organizations such as Trout Unlimited, the Henry's Fork Foundation, the Idaho Community Foundation, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Expressing his honor at joining the Idaho State Board of Education, Koehler stated that education has played a crucial role in both his military and civilian careers. He believes that it is the foundation for a strong and thriving Idaho and looks forward to working with his fellow board members to expand opportunities for every student. He emphasized on preparing students for college, career or civic life while ensuring that education in Idaho remains accessible, affordable and responsive to the needs of communities.
Koehler will be stepping down from his position on the Charter Commission to take up his new role. Governor Little will announce a replacement appointee for the Charter Commission in the coming weeks. With Koehler's appointment, the Idaho State Board of Education is set to continue its mission of providing quality education for all students in the state.
