Boise, Idaho ~ Boise, Idaho - In a joint effort to address the alarming trend of federal spending, Governor Ron DeSantis and Governor Brad Little gathered at the Idaho Statehouse today to advocate for a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
During their press conference, Governors Little and DeSantis emphasized the need for immediate action to rein in federal spending. They stressed that the only effective solution is for the balanced budget amendment campaign to reach 33 state convention calls, which would force Congress to propose a balanced budget amendment for ratification.
"States like Idaho and Florida are setting an example for America," Governor Little stated. "We have balanced budgets not just because our state constitutions require it, but because it is the responsible thing to do. Now is the time for us to come together and help President Trump put an end to the out-of-control federal spending. This is not what our founding fathers envisioned for our great nation. I want to thank Governor DeSantis for joining us here in Idaho to deliver this important message."

The governors pointed out that every state except one has a balanced budget requirement in its constitution, and every American family must live within their means. However, the federal government continues to spend recklessly without any consequences.
Governor DeSantis echoed this sentiment, stating that "the solution to our federal spending problem requires leaders in Washington D.C. to make significant cuts in the federal budget." He also emphasized that President Trump is actively working towards this goal. However, a constitutional amendment is necessary to ensure long-term fiscal responsibility from Congress.
While 27 states have already passed resolutions calling for a convention to propose a balanced budget amendment, Idaho has yet to do so.
"In my State of the State address last year, I announced my support as a member of the Governors Debt Council for a balanced budget amendment," Governor Little added. "I urge our legislature to join me in taking action and forcing Congress to live within the means of the American people."

Governor DeSantis also shared his thoughts on the importance of this issue during his visit to Idaho.
"I joined Governor Brad Little today to urge lawmakers to consider a resolution for a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution," he stated. "Florida and 26 other states have already passed similar resolutions. This amendment would hold Congress accountable and force them to make responsible spending decisions, ensuring a fiscally sound country for future generations."
Governor DeSantis also emphasized that this amendment would make current spending practices permanent, preventing any future Congress or President from undoing them.
"Congress will never voluntarily cut off the spending spigot," he said. "It is up to us, the people, to put an end to this reckless spending. I urge citizens across the country to advocate for their state to join the 27 others in calling for a Balanced Budget Amendment."
